FIELD PROGRAMMABLE COUNTS AND CODES IN RESOLVER BASED ABSOLUTE ENCODER
Need for different counts and codes
Many position/Motion feedback application need diiferent codes and counts. For example may be a drive needs a BCD input whereas a PLC needs a gray ode input in order to avoid missing counts (see Autotech application notes on the subject). Various electronic controls need an encoder input and also need different counts for revolution for example one application might need a thousand count BCD whereas another application might need a 4096 Binary.
Increasing use of absolute encoders
More and more application today are acquirong use of absolute encoders in place of incremental encoders one of the reasons is Mechanical design engineers want a more reliable position feedback that is not subjectd to power voltages or machine transportation. Absolute encoders also eliminate the need for constant reference position checking in many applications system reliability will demand pre-setting the encoder count on a periodic basis.
uCoder an Ideal solution for machine tool application
Noting that uCoder is an absolute encoder as well as it can be programmed in the field by simply setting Dip-switches as shown in the diagram to the right, It is an ideal device for new as well as old applications as it has indutry standard 3/8" shaft and a 2.5" ousite diameter. uCoder comes standard with 10 different codes and counts dip-switch selectable. These are the most common and widely used counts per revolution. You need only one uCoder for practically all your encoder needs in the plant.
Custom Codes and Counts
Autotech also offers, for a small premium custom codes and /or counts. Choice of 16 counts and code combinations is available.
